This workshop will teach you everything you need to know about how to capture great photographs of the milky way, stars and meteor showers. We will cover star trails, Milky Way, timelapse photography, star trackers, light painting sunsets and Wildlife. The workshop will start during the evening of March 7th and end by sunrise on March 8th, 2027. There are no shortages of photo locations to shoot from here. This is why I have spent over 100 nights camping on this island over the last 20 years. The night skies never disappoint here, and they always offer me something new and beautiful each time I go. In August 2024, I was treated to some beautiful northern lights, you just never know!
Assateague island has lots of wildlife including wild horses, tons of migratory birds, eagles, fox, sika deer and so much more. Video tutorials on post processing are included in this workshop that will help you process these images to make the most out of each file. Videos include how to focus stack, milky way processing, processing panorama's, layer masks, sharpening, timelapses and the list goes one.
I will have 2 star trackers with me for you to use, and capture up close portraits of the milky way and other celestial objects in the sky while we are there. If you have one, please bring it!
If you wish to camp here (which I strongly suggest for that island experience) you will need to book these sites early. Typically 6 months early!! With that said, plans change over the months and people will cancel their reservations, weeks, and even days leading up to your date, so keep checking back for sites to open up if it is full when you first look. LODGING
Lodging can be found near Ocean City, Maryland or by camping on Assateague Island itself (pictured above). Reservations book far in advance. You can also car camp in the overflow parking lot if you wish, but these campsites are incredible. I have done it dozens of times, just can't get enough of it! We will be photographing the Maryland District of Assateague.

WILDLIFE ON THE ISLAND
You can expect to see many wild horses anywhere on the island and at any time. They are typically seen entering the park, on all the roads, on the beaches, and along all bay points as well. You can also expect to see other wildlife like, sika deer, bald eagles, herons, osprey and may other types of birds. Please keep a minimum of 40ft away from all horses. Do not feed the animals as well. If you are camping, do not leave food out and store it under the picnic tables at your campsite when you aren't there. The horses are smart and will stomp a cooler open and eat it all. They are not aggressive, but please keep the 40ft distance in mind whenever you are near them.

Jeff Berkes Photography reserves the right to make changes to the schedule, dates if need be. We are not responsible for bad weather, delays or cancellations. We are also not responsible for lost or stolen items, injuries, sickness, death or damages to personal equipment and lost of personal travel expense. Failure to comply to park rules, regulations and will result in you being ejected from the workshop. This workshop runs rain or shine, if you need to cancel, or back out of this workshop, and your spot can not be filled, you will receive workshop credit towards a future workshop minus any transactions fees and a $100 cancellation fee.
