ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
This workshop will take us out into the Utah desert to capture the stunning scenery inside Utah, Specifically Arches National Park and Dead Horse State Park. We will be based out of Moab, Utah the entire time. Temperatures are hotter this time of year, and storms are more frequent making for some excellent photo ops. This will give us an increased chance to capture desert storms, lightning, and dramatic clouds amongst the alien-like landscapes. As always we will have night sky photo ops as skies permit. We may do a little driving to get to storms that are near by, if there isn't any weather predicted then we will have numerous area's around to explore during the morning, evening and at night.

WEATHER
This is why we are here, weather, to see some of the best desert storms we can find! It's the middle of the summer and it is hot out there in the desert. That is exactly what we need to have those summer monsoon storms from July thru September. In the event that there are no stormy days in the forecast, we will be taking advantage of the amazing scenery that Arches NP and Dead Horse Point State Park have to offer.

WHAT WE PLAN TO PHOTOGRAPH
We are hoping for desert storms each day! Some days we may travel a long distance to find storms before returning back to Moab in my Premium SUV / Van. In additional to chasing monsoon storms, we will explore Arches National Park, and Dead Horse State Park and possibly even Canyonlands NP if there is time.

ABOUT MONSOON STORMS
Between July and September Monsoon moisture returns to the desert southwest creating daily pop-up thunderstorms. These storms are accompanied by lots of lightning, hail, flash flooding, rainbow and amazing cloud formations. Some storms simply put out lightning with no precipitation, that makes for some spectacular displays by mother nature.

TRAVEL
Travel to, from, the workshop is not included. We will all travel in my Premium SUV or Van each day to our locations. The closest airport to fly into is Grand Junction, Colorado. We will be based out of Moab, Utah entire time.

LODGING
Hotel accommodations are included in the workshop (double occupancy) Two queen beds, right in the middle of Moab. If you wish to have your own room, you can book it on your own, there are plenty of hotels to choose from here. I do suggest staying at the same place as the group, simply for convivence.

LENS SELECITON
Long lenses will come in very handy for distant storms and for other detailed shots in wide-open landscapes. I suggest a minimum of 200mm. A range up to 400mm can also come in handy. The lens I have on the most is my 24mm-120mm f/4. It covers a wide range for landscape and storm photography. For night sky images I suggest a 14mm FX equiv. and at least f/2.8!
