ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
The Geminid Meteor Shower is THE BEST meteor shower of the year by far. Even with a full moon in 2024, we still be able to see those bright meteors under moonlight. The rates won't be nearly as high this year because of the moon, but do not let that deter you from getting out, and capturing some Fuil moon, winter wildlife, seascapes and Geminid meteors. Yes, it can be cold this time of year, but we get to experience the island almost all to ourselves and in some years it's been somewhat mild weather too! We will have the opportunity to capture beautiful lines, shapes and textures in the mostly untouched beaches and campgrounds within the National Seashore.
This workshop will cover sunset, night sky, moonlit landscapes, sunrise, and some wildlife. We will focus mainly on the meteor shower that produces some spectacular fireballs even with the moon up. That means we will also have moonrise photo ops over the ocean at sunset, and moonset photo ops at sunrise. So many unique photo opportunities in such a short period of time, this is just too hard to pass up! We will also create from star trails and timelapse sequences using our DSLR or mirrorless cameras. Weather will dictate the schedule, but we are very flexible here.
In addition to being right by our cars the entire nights, I will also have a campfire on the beach next to the waves for you to warm up by if you get a little chill! We will start the afternoon of December 13th and end at sunrise on December 14th.
Images displayed here are taken mostly under moonlit conditions. There are some images in here of Geminids that are from across the US, and some of them are taken under no moonlight as well to show you it in all it's beauty. I have been capturing this meteor shower for decades and it NEVER lets me down!

The Geminids are the best meteor shower to watch and photograph. Colder weather deters lots of people from it's stunning beauty, but don't let it deter you! The Moon will rise at Sunset, we will have a nearly full moon, but that has never stopped this meteor shower from shining through. This meteor shower can easily produce 150+ meteor per hour from dark sky sights. with the Full Moon, we could possibly expect somewhere around 20+ per hour.

LODGING
Lodging can be found near Ocean City, Maryland or by camping on Assateague Island itself (pictured above). I suggest the Comfort Suites West Ocean City (12718 Ocean Gateway, Ocean City, MD 21842). You can also camp if you wish, but these campsites are incredible. I have done it dozens of times, just can't get enough of it! i As you can see from the pictures here, I have camped here in the cold every time I have been there for this meteor shower! The tent can make a great prop too! ***We will be photographing the Maryland District of Assateague***

A non-refundable payment is due to reserve your spot on the trip. If you are a JBP Alumni you receive 20% OFF the ticket price. If you have to cancel for any reason, you will be issued the amount paid to a future workshop, minus transaction fee of $60.00. No cash refunds once the payment has been accepted. If I need to cancel this workshop due to bad weather, our make up will be on Jan 2/3rd, 2025 for the Quadrantid Meteor Shower that will have no moon and 200 meteors per hour on the one and only peak night.
